Questions about the EMS market overview
Who is the EMS market overview for?
The EMS market overview was created for the Swiss market. Primarily it is developed for Swiss energy utilities as well as for the application in buildings, i.e. for administrations and owners of Swiss real estate portfolios as well as for installers in Switzerland. However, other users will also find a lot of valuable information about the different EMS.
How does the EMS market overview for real estate differ from the market overview for energy utilities?
The needs of utilities and real estate owners/managers are fundamentally different. That is why the EMS market overview for real estate presents different functions than the EMS market overview for energy utilities. The filter options are also different. Both EMS market overviews are identical in the number of providers, so that all providers can be compared with each other, regardless of the target group.

Questions about EMS in general
How is an EMS defined?
An EMS provides systematic collection and communication of energy flows, automatically controls various equipment, and can communicate with and control at least two different loads.
More info about EMS can be found here.
Is there a funding program for EMS?
Currently, we are not aware of any funding programs that explicitly promote EMS. However, in some cantons and/or municipalities, a subsidy can be claimed for other installations that can be combined with EMS, e.g. photovoltaics or charging infrastructure for electric cars. You can find the subsidy programs offered in your place of residence at energiefranken.ch.
Which requirements must be met in the building technology for a sensible EMS application?
EMS make sense if there are several components (e.g. heat pump, PV system or charging station) that can be controlled by the EMS. This is the only way to optimize the energy flows in the building.
Furthermore, standardized communication protocols (interfaces) of the components are recommended to enable easy integration. This is often the biggest challenge, as there are numerous interfaces. However, many systems are designed for broad application of interfaces. Particular caution is required especially with older systems, which in some cases do not allow control by third-party systems.
